Taking the Big Dogs side

For those of you that follow gaming news with a passion, this may not be news, but then i never claimed to be bringing you the latest news, I just share my thoughts on things i find interesting.

So for me some of the big news over the last week has been the Lawsuit against EA by former collegiate football players, and the NCAA parting ways with EA. Now I didn't know about the lawsuit until I saw the news about the NCAA. Apparently the deal was that EA could use the NCAA brand and logo. The different schools have their own agreements with EA.

Now the question is why is the NCAA parting ways with EA? Well because EA is now being sued by a group of student athletes who claim their likeness was used in the game, without their permission. Not to be supportive of EA, the only support they get from me comes because they make Battlefield, and now hold the rights to make Star Wars games, but don't these guys wear helmets and pads, and in the game aren't you usually looking at their backside? So how do they know it was their likeness? According to Ed O'Brennan, the dude who started this suit, he was showed gameplay of a player who played like him...Whatever dude...Seriously?

Anywho the funny thing is that this whole ordeal will hurt the NCAA more than it will EA, and the more i research this the more i laugh at the utter stupidity of the lawsuit, and the NCAA's decision. Which sucks, because i would love to have a reason to bash EA.

in other EA news When NCAA released if you preordered it through certain outlets, you got an ultimate Conference bundle. Now some who didn't preordered were led to believe by said outlets that the conference, like the SEC had been left out of the game, which quite frankly is not true. The reason they are being told this though is the real story. consumers are being told that the game didn't ship with the SEC and that it was a preorder bonus, but that they can get the conference for free if they put 5 dollars down on a preorder, like Madden 25.

Guys that is some seriously shady business. A because your being dishonest with your loyal customers just to pad your store numbers. Guys dont fall for this crap. in fact if it happens to you call BS and ask to speak to someone with power in the company...Power to the Players and all.

Which leads me to my last Tidbit...

Ru Weerasuriya, founder of Ready at Dawn, went into a certain game retailer to pick up a new copy of a game. of course he did, he has the money, and works for a game company...for those who are unaware, let me start with this. Gamestop makes its money of used items. They do not make a cent when you buy a new game or system. Those are sold at the price the Developers set. Anyway. So instead of giving Ru, what kind of name is that?, a new copy the employee tried to sell him a used copy on the sly. He didn't tel Ru that he could sell him a used copy, or ask if he wanted a used copy, he tried to slide it in there. Well this pissed Ru off to no end. He flipped out and was all like "you are messing with the wrong guy. You will ru the day you messed with me!"...that was bad....But Ru is right to be upset. Dont try and pull a fast one, again bad business, its dishonest, and just uncalled for.

I love Gamestop, i really do, especially as fast as i go through games, but if you are gonna use shady business practices to pad your numbers, or improve your profit margins you are wrong, and you will quickly have this small time blogger letting the world know about it...even if it gets him fired from his 3 hour a week job. and for the record, as far as i know this doesnt happen in the store i work at, or in any of the stores in the area...we love our customers.
