So I work at a a used game retailer, and we are vigilant about someone under 17 having a parent with them when they want to get a game with a mature rating. As a parent of 2 little monkeys I am even more vigilant. Certain games or psp movies just should not be played by kids. And I make sure that the parents know this. The Problem is this is how that conversation usually, scratch that almost always goes.
The kid walks up with the game, the parent is in the car.
"Dude, or dudette, You have to have a parent with you to buy that game"
"What? Why?"
"Uh, cause its rated M for mature"
"Its ok my mom is in the car, and she says its ok"
"I dont care she has to come in and tell me its ok"
"FINE!!!...."
So Mom comes in and is all like "I said its fine."
"Mam you are aware this game is rated M, it contains very strong language, and extreme violen..."
"I dont care He is mature enough for this"
At this point i have no choice but to sell the game to this mature 10 yr old.
I had a couple come in and let their 6 yr old buy a Starship Troopers movie for PSP. I tried so hard to talk them out of this, but they insisted that it was ok and that their little Timmy loved that kind of thing.
OMG PEOPLE!!!! you had a kid, pull your head out of your well fed ass and act like a parent. Act like a person who cares about the future or your children, and our country. Act like parenting is something you care about and stop buying Timmy whatever he wants so that it keeps him busy so he doesnt interrupt your reality TV watching fried chicken feast.
I love gaming, love it. But my games dont get played until the kids go to bed. And when we go to the store they dont even get to look at anything that is for children over the age of 7. Even if they are 16...ok they are 6 and 4...but you get the point.
You know what is wrong with kids these days, you know why they go ballistic and shoot up schools...a lack of parenting, a lack of taking 2 seconds to say NO you are not old enough to buy that, play that, or look at that. A lack of internet monitoring...You know what my kids see on the internet...ABC mouse.
These little sponges are not your friends, it is not your job to give them what they want...It is your job to teach them what is right, and good. To prepare them to be contributing members of society.
If you cant do that then dont have kids.
