Firefall

OK so FireFall, a free to play 3rd person/ 1st person shooter/mmo from Red5 Studios is in Open Beta. I promptly downloaded the game so I could check it out and see if it was worth the time, and the space on my hard drive.

Now before we get started let me remind you that i am not a journalist or writer for that matter. Nor am i the sharpest tool in the shed. I am a gamer that just wants to share his ADD riddled thought with whoever has the desire to read them.

On to the game....

I would give you an overview of the story but i really dont remember what it is. they do explain it at the beginning of the game. I do know that you are in Brazil and there are aliens, and terraforming of the earth. This leads to a crazy landscape full of mutated creatures, and weird bugs. Kinda sounds like Defiance.

First the download and install was quick and painless,  as was account creation.

Character creation is pretty basic, and quick as well. Pick a gender, skin color, head...blah blah blah...jump into the tutorial. one thing to note is that you only get one character, but it isnt the character that matters, as your character isnt the one to level up.

the tutorial is also basic. you are shown the basic commands, and the basics of your battleframe, the armor that basically sets your class. The cool thing about the battleframes is that you can switch out to any of the 5 battleframes at a kiosk in the city.

The battleframe classes are as follows, Dreadnaught, Assault, Biotech, Engineer, and Recon. I have spent my time so far has been spent in the Dreadnaught armor, which is your tank. This is an easy choice for me as its what i always pick in any game. Give me the heaviest armor, and the biggest weapon and let me charge to the forefront of the fight.

Anywho, once you are done with the tutorial you are pretty much on your own. You do have a crew of 2 people that communicate with you via the suits com channels that help guide you to missions, and crafting nodes.

They first thing suggested to you is to uplink with SIN nodes in the outlying areas, this unlocks areas on you map, as well as missions. Something that I am digging is the mission come and go. as most seem like small live events.

i feel like I am getting ahead of myself. Oh yeah i should tell you about the art style and graphics. The art styles reminds me of Champions online. the end...no seriously, the graphics are decent, of course i have only got them on medium as i haven't felt like pushing my aging franken-pc to its geriatric limits. There are plenty of options in the graphics settings so that you can tweak the game to fit your PC settings...always a nice thing.
The land is colorful, and varied in its topography ranging from mountains, to sandy beaches, to lush jungles.

Ok so for now i think that is enough...ADD is kicking in and i am getting bored with all this typing....

For the record I am about 3-4 hours in, and am enjoying myself very much....

I will talk more about gameplay, missions, and crafting a bit later.
